I came up with this smoothie a couple weeks ago because I've had about zillion of them over the course of chemo and I just couldn't look at another berry-based one. The best part is that it uses up two things you might otherwise just toss out: overripe bananas and that coffee that you forgot about because you have kids who won't let you finish stuff. I keep a big Ziploc bag in the freezer and just toss peeled bananas in there when they've gone past their prime. It's the ideal thickener since they're so full of nutrition and deliciousness.
1 frozen overripe banana
1 1/2 scoops chocolate protein powder
1 cup almond milk
1 big spoonful of vanilla or plain Greek yogurt
1/4 to 1/2 cup brewed coffee, cold or room temp.
I've tried a lot of protein powders, and my favorite is Garden of Life's Raw Protein and Greens. The greens are powerful superfoods filled with antioxidants, its packed with probiotics for your digestion and immune system, and it contains stevia as the sweetener - which means it tastes awesome but doesn't rely on refined sugar or the scary Franken-sweetners that you should avoid. Win.
